Step-by-Step Setup
Cable Modem & Internet Gateway Guide
A modem translates signals from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into standard Ethernet. If the modem fails to authenticate, your entire router network goes offline.
1
Secure Coaxial Threading
Ensure the round copper coaxial cable is securely threaded onto the back of the modem and the wall outlet connector.
2
Inspect LED Status Indicators
Check the Power, Downstream (DS), Upstream (US), and Online lights. They must all be solid green or blue.
3
Register MAC Address with ISP
If replacing an old modem, call your ISP (Comcast, Spectrum, etc.) or go to their self-activation portal to register your new modem's MAC address.
4
Ethernet Connection check
Connect a high-quality Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable from the modem's LAN port directly to your router's WAN/Internet port.
5
Perform WAN Power Reset
Power off both devices. Start the modem first. Once online, turn on the router so it receives a clean IP address lease.
